There’s a new Bolivar line heading to stores and it’s covered in very dark tobacco. Called Cofradia Oscuro, the new Bolivars come in an exceptionally dark Connecticut broadleaf wrapper—a first for the brand, which began shipping to retailers last week.
Made in Honduras at the HATSA factory, the regular-production cigars are rolled with a five-country blend: a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, an Ecuador Sumatra-seed binder and filler from Nicaragua, Honduras and the Dominican Republic. They're intended to fall somewhere between medium and medium-full in terms of strength.
Like the other non-Cuban Bolivar lines, Cofradia Oscuro is budget-friendly with all three sizes retailing under $8 (before taxes), welcome price tags in this time of inflation. The brand comes in three sizes: Robusto, measuring 5 inches by 54 ring gauge ($5.99); Toro, 6 by 54 ($7.29); and Gigante, 6 by 60 ($7.89). The cigars ship in boxes of 25.
Cofradia Oscuro brings the Bolivar brand up to three lines, the others being the core Bolivar brand and original version of Cofradia. Bolivar is distributed by Forged Cigar Co., a division of parent company Scandinavian Tobacco Group.
