Warped Cigars founder Kyle Gellis created a new company in March called Gellis Family Cigars and announced two brands to be marketed under the newly established entity: Marevas, which came out in the spring, and Saunter, which ships today.
Saunter comes in only one size, a robusto measuring 5 1/4 inches by 48 ring gauge. It’s made with a Connecticut-seed wrapper from Ecuador, Ecuadoran binder and filler from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. Rolled in the Dominican Republic at Tabacalera La Isla (stylized as LA iSLA), Saunter comes in boxes of 12 and has a suggested retail price of $15 apiece. Gellis intends on adding more sizes to the brand in the future, but doesn’t have any exact dates.
As to why the cigar is called Saunter, Gellis tells Cigar Aficionado: “Saunter refers to the act of a slow, relaxed manner, without hurry, and that is the reference to the blend. This is a complex, medium-bodied blend with a lot of deep flavors and nuances. It is to be enjoyed as if sauntering.”
Gellis added that the name also refers to his dog, a Cane Corso (depicted on the band) who’d saunter around the office.
While Gellis Family Cigars is positioned as its own company, the brands under the new label are distributed by Warped.
