原版的卡雷納斯系列使用的茄衣是尼加拉瓜煙葉，茄套,、茄芯是洪都拉斯煙葉,。而這款Ultramar的茄衣、茄套都是尼加拉瓜煙葉,，茄芯是洪都拉斯,、尼加拉瓜的混合煙葉。
Ultramar系列有四個(gè)尺寸,，皇冠,，45環(huán)徑，5.625英寸,，售價(jià)是每支9.10美元,。羅布圖，50環(huán)徑,，5英寸,，售價(jià)每支9.64美元。公牛,，52環(huán)徑,，6英寸，每支售價(jià)9.75美元,。馬格訥姆,，60環(huán)徑，6英寸,，每支售價(jià)10.69美元,。每盒都是20支裝，包裝盒內(nèi)蓋印制一艘西班牙大帆船,，這也符合品牌的主題,。Ultramar在西班牙語是“海外”的意思。
品牌經(jīng)理Gabe Diaz表示，從南美洲新大陸運(yùn)往西班牙的煙葉是已知的第一種陳年發(fā)酵的煙草,，最初發(fā)布的卡雷納斯系列的味道與美洲新大陸的煙草相似,，而這款Ultramar又代表了那些經(jīng)過海運(yùn)到達(dá)西班牙后就可以抽食享用的經(jīng)過特別發(fā)酵的陳年煙葉。
Three years ago, Altadis dusted off its sleepy Saint Luis Rey line and gave it new life with the Carenas blend. Now, a new version is shipping to retailers and according to brand owner Altadis U.S.A., the tobaccos in this blend are even older.
The Saint Luis Rey Carenas Ultramar is made in Honduras at the Flor de Copan factory using an “extra-aged blend of tobaccos,” Altadis says, while not specifying exactly how much older these tobaccos are than the ones used in the Carenas line. There’s another difference in the blend besides the age; Ultramar’s wrapper and binder are both from Nicaragua, and the filler is a combination of Honduran and Nicaraguan leaf, compared to the original Carenas blend, which consists of Honduran filler and binder and Nicaraguan wrapper.
Carenas Ultramar comes in four sizes: Corona, measuring 5 5/8 inches by 45 ring gauge ($9.10); Robusto, at 5 by 50 ($9.64); Toro, at 6 by 52 ($9.75) and a 6-by-60 Magnum ($10.69). All come in 20-count boxes with a Spanish galleon depicted on the inner lid, which plays to the brand’s theme (ultramar means “overseas” in Spanish).
“The transport of tobacco in the ships destined for Spain from the New World, was the first known form of tobacco fermentation and aging,” says Gabe Diaz, brand manager for Altadis U.S.A. “The original Saint Luis Rey Carenas parallels how the tobacco would have tasted in the New World. The Saint Luis Rey Carenas Ultramar represents the extra-aged tobacco that would have been smoked upon the shipment’s arrival in Spain.”
