When General Cigar teamed up with A.J. Fernandez last year to release the Punch Diablo, it was billed as the strongest Punch cigar to date. This month, General is adding two new cigars to this full-bodied brand, bringing the line to a total of five sizes.
“Just like the full-bodied blend, these sizes are not for everyone,” said Punch senior brand manager Ed Lahmann.
The first new addition is a short, curvy perfecto called Stump, measuring 4 1/2 inches by 60 ring gauge at its fattest point. If the format looks familiar, it’s because Stump is the same unorthodox figurado as the Punch Champion. The Punch Diablo Stump comes packaged in 25-count boxes and is set to retail for $7.49 each.
Although the Punch Diablo line already has a 6 by 60, General wanted something even bigger for the brand. The upcoming El Diablo is a chunky, box-pressed behemoth measuring 6 1/2 by 66. These come in boxes of 20 and will retail for $8.99.
The Punch Diablo series draws its strength from a powerful blend consisting of a dark, oscuro Ecuadoran Sumatra wrapper, Connecticut broadleaf binder and a filler of hearty Nicaraguan and Honduran tobaccos. Like the rest of the line, the new sizes are made by A.J. Fernandez at his factory in Nicaragua.
According to General, the cigars should ship to retailers by April 17.
