Alec Bradley has gone back to the blending books. A new brand called Safe Keepings features an old, previously unused blend that was resurrected “according to recipes recorded in the Alec Bradley founder’s blend book.”
It’s not uncommon for cigarmakers to revisit older prototypes or conceptual blends and develop them into full-fledged smokes. This particular blend is composed solely of Nicaraguan tobacco, made with a Nicaraguan, Habano-seed binder and wrapper. Underneath is a filler combination of Criollo ‘98 tobacco from Jalapa, Estelí and Condega.
“When we felt the time was right, we opened the blend book and started to do a deep dive on the blend recipes inside,” explains Alec Bradley brand ambassador Bradley Rubin, whose father, Alan founded the brand. “Alec Bradley Safe Keepings honors the blend legacy of the Alec Bradley cigar brand while giving us the opportunity to move forward with resources we never would have been able to access before.”
Alec Bradley Safe Keepings comes in four sizes: Corona, measuring 5 3/8 inches by 46 ring gauge ($10.49); Robusto, at 5 by 52 ($12.29; Toro, 6 by 52 ($13.89); and a 6-by-60 Gordo ($15.19). All the cigars come in 24-count boxes and are made at Oliva’s Tabolisa factory in Nicaragua. They’re expected to ship to retailers in June.
Safe Keepings is owned by Scandinavian Tobacco Group—which acquired Alec Bradley last year—and is distributed by its subsidiary Forged Cigar Co.
