The Nicaraguan Arlequín line from Fratello Cigars is now available in a lighter version covered in a Connecticut-seed wrapper, aptly named Arlequín Connecticut. It was previewed earlier this year at the PCA trade show in Las Vegas and will be shipping to retailers this week.
Artfully themed and playfully branded, Arlequín is named for the Harlequin stock character of 16th century Italian comedy, or commedia dell’arte. The two-toned boxes and checkered patterns on the side of each cigar band are references to the colorful costumes Harlequins traditionally wore while prancing about on stage.
Arlequín was introduced in 2020, during the onset of the Covid-19 outbreak. Now that the brand has found a following (and the global economy is no longer plagued by a pandemic), Fratello owner and founder Omar De Frias decided to revisit the line and expand it with a lighter alternative.
Arlequín Connecticut is made in Nicaragua at the Joya de Nicaragua factory with an Ecuadoran wrapper grown from Connecticut seeds, Ecuadoran binder and filler blend of Nicaraguan and Peruvian tobacco. It’s offered in two box-pressed sizes: Robusto, measuring 5 1/2 inches by 52 ring gauge, and a Toro at 6 1/4 by 54. Each size comes in a 20-count box with suggested retail prices of $11.50 and $12 each, respectively.
