Rocky Patel Gold Label, one of the newest creations from Rocky Patel Premium Cigars, is just about ready for its market debut. The cigars were on display this spring at the PCA Trade Show in Las Vegas, and shipments are expected to commence at the end of the month, or the first week of June at the latest.
Despite its rich name, Gold Label is a relatively affordable smoke, ranging in price from $9.70 to $13. It was intended for “an everyday smoker,” says Rocky Patel.
The cigars are blended to be medium in body and made from a combination of Connecticut, Ecuadoran and Nicaraguan tobaccos. The wrapper is Ecuador Habano (not Ecuador Sumatra, as some retail sites have listed) and the filler is entirely Nicaraguan. In between the two are dual Connecticut-seed binders, one of them broadleaf, the other shade.
“Rocky had this blend for a long time,” says Nish Patel, executive vice president of the company. “He wanted something with a lot of rich flavor—I think Gold Label has that. It’s a very smooth, medium-bodied cigar.”
The brand is made at Patel’s Tavicusa factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, and comes in four sizes: Half Corona, which is 3 1/2 inches long by 46 ring gauge, and has a suggested retail price of $9.70; Robusto (5 1/2 by 50, $11); Toro (6 1/2 by 54, $12) and Sixty (6 by 60, $13).
